THERAPEUTIC GARDENER

Are you a knowledgeable and passionate gardener wanting to use your love of horticulture and nature to make a difference to lives?  We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, compassionate individual to join our charity, based on a beautiful organic farm, helping adults with mental health difficulties on their path to recovery.  

Purpose of the role 

You will oversee all aspects of therapeutic gardening activity, including planning and organising daily gardening activities for our participants to support them to engage with nature, develop knowledge and skills.  You will lead the planting and growing of vegetables and fruit to use in our kitchen and the propagating of plants to sell at our popular sales and stalls.  

Requirements 

We are looking for candidates with a qualification in horticulture (though would consider an experienced gardener with a background of running group activities); who has a very sound working knowledge of plants and propagation. Our ideal candidate will have previous experience in one or more of these areas: mental health; working with vulnerable people; leading activities and directing volunteers and/or service users; working in the charity or social enterprise sector. 

 

Benefits 

  • Salary, full time equivalent £26k - £28k per annum.  Pro rata £13-14k depending on experience.  (FTE based on a 40-hour week).   

  • Pension and 25 days annual leave plus bank holiday entitlement (pro rata). 

  • Refreshments and hot meal provided.
