Can we help you?

Therapeutic gardening and rural crafts for people in Oxfordshire who experience mental health difficulties

Home If you are having mental health problems, we may be able to help you.  You should already be seeking professional help from your GP or mental help workers.  We can then make a positive additional contribution to your recovery.

We pride ourselves in offering a welcoming, friendly and non-judgmental environment for you to explore your abilities and improve your wellbeing.  Some people say that we have created a sanctuary for them to relax in and feel safe but also try new things which will help them regain their self esteem.

We started off as a gardening project and this is still the heart of our activities so we call our clients Gardeners.  But don't worry, there are many other activities in addition to gardening making the days very varied.

So Root & Branch is suitable for people who want to:

  • take steps to improve their mental health
  • get involved in stimulating and interesting activities
  • meet new people
  • feel part of a team
  • develop confidence and self-esteem
  • develop employment skills and work experience
  • feel as though they are doing something worthwhile
  • learn about gardening and crafts
  • spend time in the beautiful countryside
  • talk to people about recovery

We may be able to help with transport to and from the Root & Branch

Apply to join us as a "Gardener"

If you are interested in becoming a gardener at Root & Branch, please contact us to arrange a visit.  Your care worker can refer you using our referral form (pdf file 161 KB)

Support for carers

We would be happy to put carers in touch with support groups.  A good place to start is with Rethink.  Rethink offers over 45 specialist services across the country to carers of people with severe mental illness. They also provide more than 130 groups which meet regularly to give carers and people with severe mental illness a support network in their local area.  Go to their web site where you can search for groups and services in your area.

You may also find help through NHS Carers Direct.  Carers Direct is a national information, advice and support service for carers in England.  Available online at www.nhs.uk/carersdirect and as a free, confidential helpline seven days a week on 0808 802 0202, it provides accurate, relevant information for carers and those who support them.
